Course Description
Course features breathtaking view of Acadia National Park and Maine’s rocky coastline. It is a Spectacular 13.1 mile course traveling on the scenic Acadia National Park Carriage Roads. The second largest island on the eastern seaboard, Mount Desert Island boasts an impressive 41,000 acres of land devoted to the Northeast’s only National Park, Acadia - an amazing array of mountains and sea, cliffs and coastline.
This half marathon is fortunate to be one of only a couple of races of its kind held in Acadia National Park. Prizes will be awarded for TOP 3 MEN AND WOMEN and 1st and 2nd in each age group (half-marathon and 5K)

Frequently Asked Questions
The MDI YMCA will be following all local, state and federal guidelines to ensure the safety of our participants, volunteers and community. This may include a staggered start in waves, an after race snack bag to-go, and awards will be mailed out.
Since guidelines change weekly, we will be updating all participants with the final information as we get closer to Race Day.

Race Date: Saturday, September 17, 2022
Where: Main Street adjacent to the ball fields
When and where does the 5K begin?
5K start time: ALL 5K Participants start at 8am. Where: In front of China Joy Restaurant, Main Street, Bar Harbor (just down the street from the Y)
When can I pick up my race packet?
Friday, September 16th TBA at the MDI YMCA, 21 Park Street, Bar Harbor. Saturday pick up is EXTREMELY ~ EXTREMELY limited (prior arrangements must be made with race director Jennifer Britz at races@mdiymca.org.
What is the course like?
The course is a ½ marathon, 13.1 miles. It is a challenging loop course, with the start in downtown Bar Harbor and finish at the Bar Harbor athletic field across from the MDI YMCA.
Are there adequate bathroom facilities?
Yes! And they are real bathrooms – not porta-potties! We have bathrooms available at the start & finish of the race and 2 bathrooms on the course itself.
Can we walk the race?
Yes. We ask that walkers start at 6:00am to ensure all race participants are out of the park by 9:15am. Please note, ALL 5K participants start at the same time: 8am whether you are walking or running.
Do I get a shirt?
Every pre-registered half marathon runner and walker is guaranteed a t-shirt and a custom award. The first 50 to register for the 5K will be guaranteed a t-shirt.
Are there enough water and sports drinks on the course?
We have 6 water stations with sports drink included at miles 5 and 10.
Do I get an award, even if I come in last?
Yes! Every half marathon & 5k finisher receives a custom medal.
How about parking?
The Y offers free parking. Parking meters in the field adjacent to the athletic fields and on main street will be turned off during the event, but will be turned on afterwards. Please be mindful of wen the parking meters are turned on.
What are my lodging options?
For lodging options contact the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce. Their website has a list of campgrounds, motels, and hotels. Many people who participate in this race lengthen their stays in order to further explore Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island.
Refunds? Due to a limited amount of spaces in the race, and the fact that this is an important fundraiser for the YMCA, race fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Is this race capped?
Yes. Due to Acadia National Park permit restrictions, only 400 runners may participate. This means lots of elbow room along the course. Registration Fee for race includes the cost of a National Park Pass. This will be included in your race packet. Park passes are Individual passes and are good for one week.
