Executive Director - Tommy Parham
A native of South Carolina, Tommy has over 30 years experience working working as a YMCA professional in the south. He was born in Fayeteville, North Carolina and graduated from East Rome High School in Rome, Georgia before graduating from Shorter College in Rome, Georgia with a BS in Behavioral Science. He has been Executive Director of the YMCA of Beaufort County (SC) and the Four Seasons YMCA (VA) before coming to the Mount Desert Island YMCA in June, 2016. Tommy lives with his wife, Mary, who volunteers to teach exercise classes at the Y. He has 3 adult children: Will, Kate, and Sarah who all reside in South Carolina.
Marketing Director & Executive Assistant - Demelza Ramirez
Demelza comes to the YMCA with a BS in Professional Writing from Taylor University in Indiana. She is a Maine native having grown up in Ellsworth and graduating high school from Bangor Christian Schools. For the last three years she has moved up from working part-time at the YMCA in childcare to taking on the role of Marketing Director and Executive Assistant in February of 2017. She is excited to promote the YMCA and its mission to help kids and families reach their full potential. When she's not at the Y, Demelza can be found in various productions of community theater through The Grand and the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Maine, or volunteering at her church where she holds of the role of Parish Council Clerk. She is working towards a Masters of Divinity.
Childcare & Youth Development Director - Jared Erskine
Jared Erskine comes to the YMCA with a BS in Adventure Education and Leadership, a State of Maine Teaching Certification, and is a State of Maine licensed sea kayak guide. Jared has spent the last 10 years here on MDI, during that time he's worked for the elementary schools, summer camps, and other outdoor educational programs. He is a firm believer in experimental education and learning through doing. He feels its important for individuals to form a life long bond with themselves and nature and believes the Island and Acadia National Park is a great place to do so, he is excited to guide and educate our youth in building that bond and strengthen the youth programs at the MDI YMCA. Get Up and Get Out!
Business & HR Director - Julie Fedchak
Julie Fedchak is our new YMCA Business and Human Resources Director. Julie came to MDI from Philadelphia, PA. Bound for adventure with her partner Christine and their four children. Deeply rooted in Julie’s family is a desire for wellness and physical fitness; her expertise comes from the financial oversight of a family owned fitness center. Julie as well as your director is a fulltime student enrolled in course work that includes accounting, early education/human service, and exercise & health science. Julie was recently accepted to the MBA program at the University of Maine, School of Business. The most valuable benefit offered by the Y, Julie notes, is the flexibility of integrating her family, co-workers and community as she wraps up her workdays.
Facilities Director - Chris Farley
Chris is a native of Mount Desert Island; he graduated MDI High School in 1991. After graduation he went straight into the work force. He became self employed in 2001 and had his own cleaning business expanding to a general contractor and caretaker for 38 apartments in four different complex's in the Ellsworth area. In 2016 he decided it was time for yet another move in what he has come to find was an awesome decision in accepting the position at the MDI YMCA. He got remarried in 2013 to his wife Suzanne and acquired two awesome children. He has four beautiful daughters, Noel Farley who is 22, Kaitlyn Farley who is 18, Alyssa Farley who is 15, his stepdaughter Rady Linkel who is 18 and a handsome step son Reilly Linkel who is 15. His kids are his life and he's thankful for each and everyone of them.
Race Director & Fundraising Manager - Jennifer VanDongen
Jennifer grew up in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. She attended college at the University of South Carolina on an athletic scholarship to compete in Track & Field as a heptathlete while majoring in Chemistry/Biology. After years of working in the pharmaceutical field, she married, moved to Maine, and took time off work to raise her 3 daughters, Amelia, Cora and Caroline. Jennifer enjoys volunteering in the community and first became involved with the MDI Y as a member of the half marathon race committees. When not at the Y, you can find her running up and down the mountain trails of Acadia,
hiking with her daughters, biking the carriage roads, or on another outdoor adventure.

Bob is excited to join the Y team as the new Membership Director. He has lived in Maine his whole life growing up in Owls Head and graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Kinesiology and Physiology of Exercise. Bob and his family have been vacationing to the Bar Harbor area for the past 15 years and recently decided to make Bar Harbor their permanent home. Having spent the last 20 years working in various customer service industries he looks forward to serving the MDI residence and visitors. Bob, his wife Traya and daughter Megan are excited to start this new chapter in their lives.

Senior Wellness Director - Mark Rice-Schoon wellness@mdiymca,org
Mark Schoon was born in Kittery, Maine but spent most of his childhood in Marion, Iowa with stops in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Washington state. He attended Excelsior College and is a retired Chief Master Sergeant in the US Air Force. An avid Sea Kayaker, Mark has taught at sea kayaking symposiums around the country, expeditioned above the Arctic Circle by sea kayak, kayaked in the Pacific, Great Lakes, Gulf of Mexico, the North Atlantic, the North Sea, the Arctic Ocean, as well as the sea surrounding England and Scotland. Mark's goals for the future of the Y include his continuing effort to have the safest and most effective team of aquatic professionals around as well as expanding the offerings of the Wellness programs to better reach all ages of the MDI community.
