PRESCHOOL & AFTERSCHOOL CARE AT THE YMCA
Welcome to the Chickadee preschool at the Y!
The Mount Desert Island YMCA provides a safe and active environment for your child to develop socially, emotionally, and academically.
Preschool Program
Our Chickadee Preschool Program is open to potty-trained children ages 3+.
There are three and five-day/week options. Our preschool is open from 7:30 am - 3:30 pm. If families need care after 3:30 pm you can enroll your child into our afterschool program online or through our front desk.
Preschoolers have scheduled time in the pool, the gym, at the town library, and outside at the playground. They are involved with our preschool-age programming at the YMCA such as Preschool yoga, swim lessons, tumbling, and Kids in Motion each week, and the quality licensed educational programming.
Pay weekly with the auto draft. There is MDI YMCA member and non-member pricing. We offer Y based financial aid and accept State of Maine Child Care subsidies.
Any financial aid should be worked out before program registration occurs to make sure the scholarship/ subsidy is applied.

Welcome to the Afterschool Care Program at the Y!
The Mount Desert Island YMCA provides a safe and active environment for your child to develop socially, emotionally, and academically.
We offer afterschool care for every day of school during the AOS #91 school year as well as all regularly scheduled half days.
We accept children in PreK-Fourth grade. Connors-Emerson and MDES buses both come to the Y every day between 3:15-3:25pm and between 12:50-1:00pm on half days.
Our staff greets and checks in all children right from the bus. We use our multi-purpose room, indoor track, gymnasium, and town playground for programming. We feed the kids healthy snacks, have some structured and unstructured time and center options. We do arts and crafts, STEM activities, and have a wide variety of board games, manipulative like Lego and Brain Flakes for building and creativity.
One of the great aspects about our program is we help kids get ready for, deliver, and pick up when needed, children from the Y's youth activities and sports as well as swim lessons and swim teams ( additional registration(s) required.
